We like biking and bike films. But, sometimes plain bike porn is just too much.
That’s why we like this. The new high-definition mountain bike/freeride film Freedom Riders from KGB Productions/Gravnetic isn’t just dudes hucking meat and hitting dirt jumps. It tells a story. An important one – as a matter of fact - to any of you who have ever had an unstoppable Kool-Aid smile after ripping down your favorite trail.
Â
The film tells the story of the evolution of freeride/DH biking and the struggle to create trails. From the early days of the Klunkerz to forming the first trail specific downhill mountain bike trail in US Forest Service history, the film follows a rebel group of Freedom Riders on Teton Pass, Wy. as they grow from building illegal trails to forging a working relationship with the USFS to maintain and create trails. The film also documents the struggle other riders have to develop trails around the country. Think Dogtown and Z-Boys of biking.
In the end, the Freedom Riders partnership with the USFS has laid the foundation for other bike-rich areas from Bozeman, Mont to Big Bear, Calif to work with local agencies to help create trails. The film will premiere at the Sea Otter Classic on Sat April 18 at the Embassy Suites in Seaside, Calif. from 7-9pm. The film will premiere in partnership with IMBA and the IMBA California Benefit Party. Cost is $10 with free beer from New Belgium Brewing, free food and a killer raffle. The film will then head out on a 50-venue nationwide tour. For more info check: www.freedomridersthemovie.com. Â
